Excerpt

And there we saw the sunset.

My mouth dropped open as a blaze of red and orange burned the sky, setting the mesa alight in an astonishing display of nature or God or some deity more powerful, older, more mesmerizing than anything I had seen.

I think I gasped, and clutched Cody’s arm, our silence more meaningful than any words could have been. A deep stillness filled me as I watched the cycle of day to night, as the earth turned. And I was part of it; together we were part of it. My problems seemed small and ridiculous and I promised myself that this was where my life started again: this day, this moment, with this man at my side—if he’d have me.

MeetTheAuthor

I started writing contemporary romance two years ago. Before that, I didn’t think I could write a sex scene. Turns out I can!

My lucky number is 13 because I was born on the 13th and live near a haunted castle by the ocean. My number one past-time is watching hot surfers get changed into (and out of) their wetsuits.

My husband doesn’t read my books. My mother does.

Writing is my love, my hobby, my total addiction. All my characters are important to me and whisper their stories, even when I’ve finished writing their books. That’s why you’ll often find bonus chapters/out-takes from various books, because those voices just won’t be quiet.  You can also visit Jane on her Amazon Page.

Review

Well that was unexpected! Rockstar + Single Mom + Rekindled Romance always = fabulous! This was a story that I haven’t read teasers for or read anything more than the synopsis, so I wasn’t quite sure if I’d like the author’s style of writing or if the story would feel like a repeat of others that I have read. Luckily, it was unique and the style of writing was perfect.

Immediately I was intrigued by Marlene and her situation. Single moms are a whole different ballgame than what I’m used to. Marlene had a support system, but was still very much on her own. Her family dynamic was a little confusing at times – I couldn’t quite figure out the relationship she had with her parents – but that did not take away from the story at all. Luke’s family was cut and dry and there was no confusion.

Watching Luke come back and prove that he was ready for his family was very sweet. He wasn’t about to back down and let some other guy win. At the same time, it was interesting to read how Marlene battled with herself about going after the love of her life or her lifelong dream. Sometimes going after love is too big of a risk, but usually it pays off! Luckily for Marlene, Luke understood and supported her dreams and encouraged them.

This story was sweet and romantic and quite a bit angsty! If you are looking for a good summer read for this 4th of July weekend, this is one you’ll definitely want to check out!

Excerpt

Turning around to go back inside my laughter stops. I don’t feel the crystal dish slip from my fingers. I just stand here… frozen.

There’s yelling and noise but it’s all muffled… like that night.

I close my eyes.

Breathe… Breathe…

My heartbeat pounding through me the muffled sounds become clear and I hear Morgan screaming at me.

“Jesus, Sidney! Do you want Mom to kill you?”

Blinking feverishly I look down to see she caught it just as it was about to smash. I can’t bring myself to worry about that right now. I look back up and watch as Simon, the boy I was so in love with just moments ago pulls away from a girl that up until this point was my best friend. A girl I thought I was going away to college with, a girl who knew how I felt about him.

This is not happening… at my party no less…

“Breathe… You’re in control…” Molly whispers, her hand connecting with my back startles me.

You know when you witness something and you know you should look away but you can’t because it’s one of those moments, those damn life changing moments that your brain makes sure to take notes on so that nothing is missed, no detail is overlooked, and nothing is ever forgotten. It’s one of those moments in life that you know instantly will repeat itself over and over in your head until it eventually causes you to change. It will break you and from those pieces in that moment will rebuild you. I thought that night was my moment, but I guess that was just a giant stepping-stone to this. Maybe I was wrong about fate… maybe it forgot about me.

My pulse continues to beat through my body in a deep throbbing rhythm, the darkness of a black out building up. He steps back from her, slightly turning his head in my direction and I know he knows I’m standing here, he just refuses to turn and look at me. I’m so dumb, I should have seen this coming. I mean did I really think I was so different from any of my predecessors? Women, real women, who have actually given themselves to him completely only to find out the next morning they’re just one in a crowd of many. Nothing special and forgotten about as soon as he received whatever it was he wanted from them.

I did… because he told me I was. We had a plan…
