Cadence Miller is a good girl. She just happens to make one terrible mistake her junior year in high school which costs her ten months in juvenile detention. Now a senior, she’s lost everything: her best friend, the trust of her parents, driving privileges, Internet access. It’s a lonely existence.
But there is one bright spot: Mark Connelly, her very cute, very off-limits 28-year-old calculus teacher. She falls hard for him—a ridiculous schoolgirl crush headed nowhere. She can’t help it. He’s the only good thing at Crestview High. She doesn’t expect him to reciprocate her feelings. How inappropriate, right? But he does. And he shows her.
And that’s when her life goes from bad to good.

Review
WOW. If there was ever a book that toed the line, it’s this one. I admit that I was a bit skeptical about the subject prior to beginning it, but it was really ok. By ok, I mean, I was so sucked in to the story from the minute I started that I forgot how controversial it really was.
I hated Cadence’s parents. I really did. I think that helped me to overlook the issues I could’ve potentially had with the overall storyline. Her parents were judgmental, legalistic, and ridiculous. They held her to an unfair & impossible standard. That right there is a recipe for rebellion. But, I loved her brother. There were times I wanted to strangle him, but by the end, I really loved him.
Now the main characters. Cadence & Mark. What fabulous character development with these two! By the time their story started to unfold, you already felt connected to them and rooting for a “Good” outcome for those two. You wanted things to work out for them even when you feel like the socially acceptable thing is to tell them to back off for a while. I held my breath more times than I can count. I might have cried. And I definitely cheered a lot.
I absolutely cannot wait for the sequel to come out! S. Walden promised us that there isn’t a relationship cliffhanger in the story and she held true to that promise. There is, however, other cliffhangers that make the ending. But it’s ok. The story wrapped up where it needed to and the next will be just as amazing, I’m sure of it!
