"One day I'm going to touch you in a thousand different ways and show you how to touch me," he said.
And he did.
Struggling with a tormented past, undergraduate Olivia Winter once led a practical but isolated life. Then she met Professor Dean West, a brilliant scholar of medieval history who melted Liv's inhibitions and taught her the meaning of both love and erotic pleasure. But after three years of a blissful, lusty marriage, Liv and Dean now face a crisis that threatens everything they believe about each other...and sex might not be enough to save them.

I wasn't really prepared for what I was about to experience when I started reading Arouse. I thought it would be a story of love and lots of sex between a married couple. My first impression of Olivia and Dean were that they were so in love and obnoxiously sweet. They only had eyes for eachother and Olivia put Dean on a very high pedastal. At times I felt sorry for Liv because she saw Dean as superior to herself. Dean did not give me warm and fuzzies. I couldn't trust him and he made me nervous. Liv started out weak but I ended up feeling proud of her.
Olivia Winter started out as a damaged and hurt girl and met Professor Dean West, who was her knight in shining armour. They needed eachother to fill their voids and feel whole. Olivia is looking for her place in life. She followed her husband's dream and was now trying to place herself in the world. A surprise revelation comes from each one of them and it threatens their relationship like nothing has before. Suddenly they cannot trust eachother. Is their passion enough? Watching their downward spiral was heartbreaking. It seemed like something anyone of my girlfriends could go through. (not me, right?!) So much of this story was sad. I felt like they were my friends and wanted to fix them. I wanted to shake Dean and say, "wake the eff up, you idiot". I wanted to give Olivia a high five for maturing and standing her ground. All along I was convinced they needed one another and it was the only way it could work.
One thing that they each needed was Kelsie. She was an amazing friend and added some much needed humor to the intense, nerdy professor and mild mannered Liv. Kelsie was a fantastic addition to this story and I'd love to read a book based on her!
If you like emotional rollercoasters, then Arouse is the book for you. It is intense and passionate yet melancholy. The way it ended threw me for a loop. I can't wait for the sequel, Allure! I'm not sure if I'll ever be a huge fan of Dean, but I am a fan of Dean and Olivia together!!! I want things to work out for them so much!

D Em, thanks so much for participating in the AROUSE blog tour and for taking the time to review the book! Your reaction to Dean is so interesting, and I love that you love Kelsey. I hope I can write her story one day -- I think she deserves one! Thanks again for your support! --Nina
